Dominick Calsolaro enjoys serving the residents of the First Ward in the South End of Albany, New York. He is constantly working on ways to make Albany a more desirable place in which to live and work - such as having passed into State Law, the First Time Homebuyers' Tax Exemption and the establishment of the Gun Violence Task Force. Dominick has lived in Albany for almost all of his life. He is a graduate of Cardinal McCloskey High School (now Bishop Maginn), Class of 1973 and Siena College, Class of 1977 having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Dominick has been employed by the New York State Legislative Bill Drafting Commission for over 32 years. He is married to Mary LaMont, Vincentian Institute - Class of 1973, and they have two children: Dominick, Jr. and Catherine. Dominick Jr attends Rochester Institute of Technology and Catherine is currently a senior at Albany High, and soon to be a Boston University Terrier. Scraps, the dog, rounds out the list of family members. In November 2001 Dominick was elected to the Albany Common Council in his first-ever attempt at elective office, and re-elected in 2005. The Calsolaro family has a long history in Albany. Calsolaro's Restaurant, a Washington Avenue Landmark, was opened by his grandparents in 1936 and operated for 56 years until his father retired in 1992. Since 1987, he and his family have lived on Clare Avenue and been very active in the community. Calsolaro presently serves on the Advisory Board of Historic Cherry Hill. Calsolaro has also served as President of the Second Avenue Neighborhood Association, Chair of Albany Operation Weed and Seed, an original member of the Mayor's South End Revitalization Task Force, currently serves on the South End Action Committee, and is currently a member of Historic Albany Foundation's Task Force on Vacant and Abandoned Buildings. Calsolaro is a member of the Tech Valley Task Force - Metrics sub-committee, and a member of ACAN - the Albany Community After School Network, which is the basis for the Mayor's Kid-by-Kid initiative and a Board Member for Grand Street Community Arts. He was a coach and secretary of Whitehall Little League, a member of the Albany City School District's Budget Advisory Committee. He is a current Albany High School PTSA member.
